MTT is the premier provider of turbine powered FiFi fire fighting packages used by offshore vessels in the Gulf of Mexico and throughout the world. The MTT turbine powered FiFi fire fighting packages have a water flow volume range between 5,285 Gallons per Minute (GPM) and 60,000 GPM. But did you know that those same turbine powered FiFi fire fighting packages also act as flood control, water transfer and dewatering devices?
They do. In an offshore FiFi fire fighting application seawater is drawn into the turbine driven fluid pump and then directed under pressure to the monitors (i.e. water cannons). Depending on the size of the package there are one to four monitors that point the water stream onto a ship or platform fire. That same water stream can also act as a water curtain for when a platform is flaring gas or for fire protection at the entry of a port when a turbine powered FiFi fire fighting solution is required.

A flood control application uses the same MTT FiFi technology to achieve a different result. For example, imagine a flooded residential subdivision such as what we experienced after Hurricane Katrina. There is standing water of varying depths. With MTT’s turbine powered flood control and FiFi fire fighting packages the flexible suction hoses are placed into the flooded zones and pumping can begin. The flood water is then directed into a drainage canal or some other non-flooded area.
The MTT turbine powered flood control and FiFi fire fighting packages are portable and self contained. Road legal trailers can move the packages from Point A to Point B. The turbine packages are designed to operate in all ambient weather conditions. They use standard diesel fuel but can be converted to natural gas fuel if desired. The MTT turbines are low emission devices well beneath diesel engine outputs.

One of the challenges with flood control is accessibility to the flooded area and the placement of the MTT FiFi fire fighting and flood control packages. For example, there may be a large flood zone but no way to get the water suction lines to the water source. In response to the problem, MTT designed the turbine powered FiFi Rig Pack which has a 24 meter (80 foot) water lift. The water flow is 5,285 GPM in our smallest package but it can be scaled up to meet any flow volume requirement. The mobile MTT FiFi Rig Pack can be driven onto an overpass or bridge and once the flexible suction lines are dropped into the flood area the pumping can begin.
